One of the issues facing marketers when they are launching a new product is to come up with a name that people will identify with.  Over time these names can become synonymous with that brand and create a strong mental connection.

We have products like land rover rugged reliability, Toyota  for long lived reliability and Apple computers for innovation.

But what if someone more subtle product name associations?  There are certain products where product names are so subtle in their perception with shoppers that we may not take notice but still can influence us in our buying decisions.  Take for example toilet paper.

For a product that we use every day, for a purpose we really discuss, toilet paper has some pretty good names.  After all we would not want a bad toilet paper. Things could get quite sticky…

Of course though the descriptions that satisfyour inner fears such as extra thick paper paper.  But the product names are just as subtle.

Take for example PUREx – nothing to pure about its function except hopefully to leave your backside that way.

Or the recycled paper call GreenSOFT. I suppose we normally associate recycled paper with being lesser than first generation paper so telling us that the paper is both green (for happy environmentalists) and soft hits two bases with one product name.

Then there is KLEENEX. Well we hope this are clean after using it. Especially as the product comes with “luxury embossing”. Just makes you feel good thinking about it (even maybe a little bit posh), even before you use it.

If your guts are a bit crook maybe you need to have someone trot (OK a semi pun) out and buy a few rolls of abSORBENT – yes and you are a double winner because it is extra think.

But for those worried about giving the backside a good wipe for fearing they will break through the toilet tissue, have someone get their tail over to Aldi and buy some of their SAFE toilet paper (yeah, not kidding).

Of course if safety is not an issue you know you can always buy from the next on the shelf with total CONFIDENCE, something everyone should have during that action just before the flush.

Have I missed any? Let me know of other toilet tissue names via comments.
