10 low cost (and not so low cost) marketing ideas

I was reading an article on Smartcompany about 10 marketing ideas they claimed were low cost.
The term low cost is a little fluid – it depends on the size of your business and the mention of using an ad agency usually blows the budget out of the water even before the discussion turns to creative and media.
I was a little dissappointed that they had not included SMS under their direct marketing banner.
SMS is such a cost effective method to reach your own database, and is a cost effective way to engage new potential customer through the use of rented lists. In fact any business, even home-based businesses can make use of SMS as an effective marketing tool.
The ideas on the Smartcompany article include:
1. Word-of-mouth (using a WOM company even!)
2. Social networking (more advertising than participation)
3. Customer Relationship Marketing (encourging purchase of software)
4. Experiential marketing (sounds fun!)
5. Product placement (dream the dream)
6. Direct Marketing (don’t forget SMS!)
7. Whisper campaign (subterfuge in real life!)
8. Turn on the media (see our previous post about the auction)
9. Corporate events (champagne anyone?)
10. Negotiate (bargains are to be had)
Other ideas anyone?
