Is SMS polling under-utilised?

The ability for people to be able to communicate instantly with mobile phones is one of the greatest society changing technologies of the past 50 years.
While voice calls make a huge impact on efficiencies of business and personal communication (like being able to call my daughter while she is on a school trip in Europe - no more relying on post-cards and letters) texting has also made huge difference to the way we communicate.
So wy is it that more usage of texting is not being made?
I was just reading a press release about a supposedly patent-pending system of polling (though I don’t know how a patent system could possibly still happen given the ubiquitous nature of polling) and a statistic caught my eye…This was that a claimed 81% response rate within 5 minutes and 95% within 3 hours. (Dipstick Research Ltd)
Now this might be part of the patent - a system that gives such high response rates (but I think it has more to do with the timing of the poll, such as at a rally or other event) but what it does highlight is that here is the ideal polling method.
Most people have their own phones, the response time-frame can be significantly shortened and as the mobile number is captured, duplicate responses can be easily eliminated.
