Given its size, it is no wonder that this innovative marketing idea come from one of the fast food industry giants – McDonalds.

In a bit to further boost their breakfast menu sales MediaPost reports that”

consumers will be invited to create videos about their own morning challenges–like maybe how hard it is to get up and get moving. Visitors will join McDonalds’ Society for Morning Impaired, a group committed to returning breakfast to harried consumers.

mcdonaldslogoNow this is a nifty way to get people interacting with the brand – maybe not appealing to everyone to video themselves tumbling naked from bed, but perhaps more appealing to the voyeurs of breakfast fantasies….

You can vote for your favourite video and McDonald’s will select three people to serve as characters on the site describing what makes their mornings particularly dysfunctional.

If you are not a home video producer, you can still join, and by submitting your email address you get to print out a coupon for a free sausage McGriddles sandwich.

You can also opt-in to receive additional offers by handing over their mobile phone number.

Even if the thought of McDonalds for breakfast does not turn you on, this is a great example of consumer participatory marketing – tapping into the creativity of the marketplace.
