Using SMS as a motivation tool

SMS has many uses and in business it can be used to communicate, one-on-one with staff.
One of our clients is using SMS to motivate sales representatives by running an internal competition.
The basis of the exercise is that sales representatives are awarded points based on the number and value of sales made. These points are tallied each week and a leaderboard is constructed.
Each week, using data merge, a personalised email is sent to each sales rep:
Hi John, your sales points now total 123. You are now in position number 9 on the leaderboard. Keep up the good work for your chance to win a great prize!!
At the end of the period the top five sales reps win a prize based on their final ranking.
The process is a great motivator for staff who, becuse they are on the road, often feel isolated from the main goings on of the company.
The process can work equally well for agents and resellers. All you need to do is have an efficient reporting system in place to extract the data each week.
If you would like to implement a system like this for your company (or know a complany that would be interested, please drop me an email.
Is SMS being usied in your business for staff communication or motivation? Why not share the experience via comments.
