MattE 30 Sep 2006 | : Marketing, Web

There is an interesting psycholgical event that takes place when many people make a sale. This event is often linked to when that person has bought something that is expensive, difficult to research, quickly outdated, or that they perhaps don’t truly need. The feeling they have can range from a twinge of regret or doubt about your decision to a full blown anxienty attack that can cause ongoing self doubt on aspects like “did I really get the best deal? Mobile phones to track missing people

A MOBILE phone tracking system to find missing people will be available in Australia next month. Makers of the GoFinder say that the system is ideal for carers of those with dementia. The system works by placing a mobile phone on a loved one’s belt. If the person disappears, relatives can gain access to the company’s website to find their approximate location.

GoFinder uses cell site data to find the location with an accuracy of about 150 metres in city environments.

The web - coming to a phone near you

MattE 28 Sep 2006 | : Web

The next big revoloution in web is not going to be tied to computers, but will soon be blasting onto a phone near you - maybe even yours…

One of the main stumbling blocks has been the most websites look really, really bad on a phone’s screen. Opera have tried to address the problem with their mobile phone browser, but it still does not put informatiuon into the logical sort of order needed for effective mobile browsing.

Info via web mobile is popular

One of the world’s most browsed sites is the UK’s BBC which has about 20% of the market share of mobile browsing. Its popularity comes not only from the excellent content (leaving other national broadcasters wallowing in their wake), but also from developing countries where internet access is hard, but mobile access is easy. Consider that of all the international traffic visiting the BBCs WAP pages come from Nigeria (which has a huge mobile market penetration) with 61% followed by South Africa on 19% and Uganda and Jamaica on 7% each.

2) Make your posts easy to read. Italian comic Beppe Grillo broke into the Top 10 by setting his key points in boldface.

MattE 22 Sep 2006 | : Media, SMS

The Mobile Life survey, conducted by YouGov, of more than 16,500 British adults who use mobile phones finds that:

Daily Life
• 92% of mobile phone owners cannot get through a typical day without using their phone
• 9% of 18-24 year olds – around 400,000 people – admit they are addicted to their phone, so they no longer feel in control of how they use it
• For people 18-24 years old, their mobile phone matters more to them than television
• Most people aged 18-40 say mobile phones have improved their quality of life. However,
mobile phone-owners over 40 are evenly divided
• People aged 18-29 tend to use their phones more to send and receive texts than to hold
conversations
• Two out of five people have lost the use of their mobile phone at least once. The main reason was that the phone was broken

Health
• Only 18% of people are strongly concerned about the health risks of living near a mobile
phone mast and only 6% of people strongly agree that they are concerned that using a
mobile phone too much could be harmful to their health

Google increases ad fees for some sites

I was reading an article that looked at Google’s treatment of what they called ‘thin websites’ (those with only one or two pages) and how the Google adsense charge for advertisers operating these sites higher than for sites with many pages.

The upshot was that Google had examined stats and determined that they like sites with more pages and therefore more content.

Content sites not hit
