Google visitors non-converters?

Here is an interesting article Two New Studies Show Google Clicks Don’t Convert as Well
It talks about lower conversion rates of visitors coming from Google than other search engines.
The author tries to counter this by saying that the lower Google number is because people buy lots more keywords on Google than on other main search engines.
I don’t see how this holds true…unless the keywords being bought are so off-target as to be meaningless. Also, it would appear that the ‘clients’ she speaks of might need to spend some time analysing the conversion rate of their keywords and start dropping the non-performers - like the rest of us do!
I was also really interested in this line:
lower conversions would make sense as contextual ads almost invariably pull lower conversions than search ads.
I guess here she means ads on websites…This flies in the face of convention. Give people good info and provide them with relevant links and they will click. Of course the downside on Google style ads v affiliate linking is the inability to link from within the text.
It would be interesting to discover the conversion rates of in text advertising such as you see on this blog.
