Try this simple test to see how you fare in the customer focus scale:

Do you have a clear understanding about your customer’s wants

Do you communicate these needs to your staff

Do you have clear service standards

Do you know what your competitors are offering your customers

Do you have a customer complaints system

Do you have quality control checks on products

If you were truthful, there are probably some areas that could do with improvement. If you scored yes for only four of the six (even if only a partial yes) then you need to take serious action NOW!

In order for your business to sustain pressure from your competitors, each of these basic areas must be addressed totally and honestly. Now, for the rest of today, ask yourself again, do you really know who your customers are and what it is they really want?
